Summary:
Assists with field surveys, topographic mapping, boundary surveys, construction layout, and cadastral research. Communicate effectively with Survey Technician while in the field to ensure proper definition of project scope and specification.
Requirements:
Knowledge of survey field techniques and survey language. General knowledge of the use of sophisticated GPS equipment, total stations, and other electronic surveying equipment. General knowledge of plumb range rods and level rods; the use of conventional surveying equipment such as rods, chains, tripods, levels, and tribrachs. Basic skill in taking legible notes. Competence in coordinate geometry calculation is preferred. Ability to maintain a cooperative relationship with those contacted in the course of work activities. Familiarity with map projections and state plane coordinate systems is required.
This position requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field including the ability to read reports, spread sheets, manuals, blue prints, plans, drawings and correspondence. Also, required is the ability to perform general math calculations.
Mandatory requirements:
- Ability to follow all safety protocols and standard operating practices.
- Ability to interact with coworkers in a positive and professional manner.
- Use coordinate geometry and other methods to perform analysis of survey data related to monumentation to ensure its completeness and accuracy.
- Assist in performing land surveys for maintenance, location, and relocation of section corners through the use of GPS equipment and/or conventional surveying equipment.
- Act as chain-man or rod-man.
- Perform basic field calculations when requested including closing and adjusting level loops and calculating coordinate data for use in GPS navigation.
- Use a variety of instruments including Leica, Spetra Precision, and Topcon.
- 6 months field surveying experience (minimum).
- Back ground check and satisfactory drug test required.
- Valid Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record
While working in the office: Typically sit at a desk or table. Occasionally lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects weighing up to 30lbs. While performing the duties of this class, employees are regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and interpret data, information and documents; analyze and solve problems; use math and mathematical reasoning; observe and interpret situations; learn and apply new information or new skills; perform highly detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks; and interact with staff and other organizations; and supervisors, co-workers, inspectors and employees in other departments and others encountered in the course of work.
While working in the field: Regularly walk, stand, or stoop. The employee is occasionally required to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Frequently lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity. Carry equipment up and down steep mountainous terrain. Walk, stand, crouch, or run on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. Regularly drives a field truck; occasionally operates rugged off terrain vehicles.
Work for sustained periods of time maintaining concentrated attention to detail in highly analytical situations requiring an extremely high degree of accuracy. Use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity. Distinguish between shades of color and communicate via cell phone or radio. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
