GIS Technician
Part time position that could turn into a full time position.
General Description:
Collect GPS data related to oil and gas assets to assist in permitting, exhibit creation, and asset management. Collect GPS location data per custom projects as stated by clients’ standards. Utilize mobile software products to collect quality GIS data meeting data requirements per the project. Upload and post process field data, perform QA/QC, and prepare for use in exhibits. Majority of time will be spent in the field driving to remote locations, collecting GPS data, & working with land personnel to ensure data integrity.

Required Skills
- Basic knowledge of technical application, concepts, principals, and theories in GIS
- Working knowledge of basic GIS technical processes and routines for the delivery of quality GIS and cartographic work products
- Ability to work independently, in remote environments, and effectively communicate with the GIS team.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Valid Colorado driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
- Back ground check and satisfactory drug test required
Computer Experience:
- 1-2 years’ experience with ESRI’s ArcGIS Desktop (9.x, 10.x) is required.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
- MS Access – basic proficiency
- MS Outlook- basic proficiency
- MS Excel- intermediate proficiency
- MS Word – intermediate proficiency
- MS PowerPoint – intermediate proficiency
- A thorough knowledge of GPS concepts and GPS data collection
- Experience using mapping grade or survey grade GPS units to collect location and attribute data.
- Experience with Trimble units or CartoPac software a plus.
- Required Educational Background
- BA/BS degree from an accredited College or University in Geography, Planning, Natural Resources, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent work experience.
Responsibilities:
- Collect GIS data using mapping grade GPS units.
- Manage data upload, download, and post processing
- Verify data meets client’s standards.
- Utilize GIS systems to produce necessary documents and exhibits.
- Work in remote areas all day in a variety of extreme weather conditions.
- Physically active.
- Maintain effective working relationships with employees, land personnel, and the public.
- Make minor mechanical check of vehicle; drives to and from job; obtains sufficient quantity of surveying supplies from the office; assists in maintaining mileage and daily time reports.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- Depending on workload, work duties may involve equipment maintenance, facilities maintenance, and general office work.
While working in the field or office: Regularly walk, stand, or stoop. The employee is occasionally required to lift objects weighing up to 50 pounds. Frequently lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity. Carry equipment up and down steep mountainous terrain. Walk, stand, crouch, or run on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. Regularly drives a field truck; occasionally operates rugged off terrain vehicles.
Environmental Factors:
- Work is regularly performed for sustained periods outdoors and occasionally in hot, cold, or inclement weather; and work exposes employee to possible bodily injury while performing field work. This position does contain 60 % of field work. The employee would be exposed to the possibility of the following:
- Seasonal extreme temperatures
- Daily noise and vibration
- Seasonal wetness and humidity
- Daily physical hazards.
** Knowledge of the oil and gas industry a plus**
** Knowledge of Public Land Survey System (PLSS) a plus**
**Knowledge of underground pipe location a plus**
