Summary:
You must be able to conduct field surveys, topographic mapping, boundary surveys, construction layout, and cadastral research. Perform field calculations (COGO) for stakeout, as well as office calculations and conversions as needed. Communicate effectively with clients in the field to ensure proper definition of project scope and specification. Excellent customer service and client facing expertise is a must. Surveying for proposed locations, section breakdown, pipeline right of way and facility layout are just some of the jobs you will be involved in.
Requirements:
Knowledge of:
- Survey field techniques and survey language.
- State and Federal laws, rules, and regulations.
- Research methods, techniques and/or sources of information.
- Knowledge of the use of sophisticated GPS equipment, total stations, and other electronic surveying equipment.
- Advanced skill in taking legible notes.
- Methods of analysis for surveys associated with complex land surveying related problems.
- A basic understanding of AutoCAD Civil 3D software operations and its uses.
- A basic understanding of database and system administration techniques as required to move data and files between applications and repositories and performing database queries.
- A general understanding of GIS concepts and processes; uses and operations of GPS data capture equipment and software.
This position requires broad knowledge in a general professional or technical field including the ability to read reports, spread sheets, manuals, blue prints, plans, drawings and correspondence. Also, required is the ability to perform general math calculations.
Mandatory requirements:
- Attention to detail and strong communication skills
- Maintain a cooperative relationship with those contacted in the course of work activities.
- Control the development, input and maintenance of the land survey data base.
- Perform detailed analysis and determine efficient work processes.
- Assist in performing land surveys for maintenance, location, and relocation of section corners through the use of GPS equipment.
- Use a variety of instruments including levels, total stations, and GPS equipment.
- A satisfactory background check.
- Valid Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record
Preferred:
- Four year Degree in Surveying, Mapping, Geomatics, GIS or related completed degrees, and / or a minimum 2 years relevant experience in land surveying.

The employee would be exposed to the possibility of the following:

While working in the field: Regularly walk, stand, or stoop. The employee is occasionally required to lift objects weighing up to 60 pounds. Frequently lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity. Carry equipment up and down steep mountainous terrain. Walk, stand, crouch, or run on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces. Regularly drives motor vehicles
Work for sustained periods of time maintaining concentrated attention to detail in highly analytical situations requiring an extremely high degree of accuracy. Use tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity. Distinguish between shades of color and communicate via cell phone or radio. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and the ability to adjust focus.
